Connecticut 13, Delaware 10 March 21, 2004 Huskies Bang out 17 Hits in Win Box Score NEWARK, DE - Jeff Hourigan and Tim Dempsey each drove in three runs as the University of Connecticut banged out 17 hits in its 13-10 win over the University of Delaware baseball team Sunday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium. Hourigan belted his fourth home run of the season - a two-run blast over the left field fence - in the top of the third and also picked up the win for the Huskies (8-5), allowing nine hits and seven earned runs while striking out three to improve to 2-1 on the season. Additionally, the Huskies have now won eight in a row after starting the season 0-5. Delaware, meanwhile, lost its second-straight game after winning 13 in a row. Connecticut led 4-1 going into the bottom of the third before the Hens exploded for five runs to take a 6-4 lead. Freshman Dan Kozek (right) singled home senior Steve Van Note and junior Dave Harden, followed by a sacrifice fly to right field by sophomore catcher Brian Valichka which scored freshman Bryan Hagerich. Sophomore Brent Rogers then singled home Kozek for the fifth run of the inning. The Huskies struck back with two runs in the top of the fourth and fifth and five runs in the top of the sixth to build a 13-7 lead. Hourigan doubled home Russ D'Argento and Mike Leonard followed with a sac fly to right field to score Tony Mallozzi in the fourth. In the fifth, Dempsey singled home Mike McDonough and was later plated plated by D'Argento. Marc Peluso doubled home Mallozzi in the sixth for the Huskies before Delaware freshman pitcher Mitch Heckert issued a bases-loaded walk to Mike Mocerino that scored Leonard. Dempsey then singled home both McDonough and Peluso and Dave Tokarz followed with a single to score Mocerino. The Blue Hens scored two in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to 13-9 on an RBI double by Valichka that scored Hagerich and an RBI single by junior Ryan Graham that scored Valichka. Van Note added his fifth home run of the season in the season in the bottom of the eighth to make it 13-10. Junior Chris Garrick started and pitched three innings for the Blue Hens (13-6), allowing six hits and six runs (four earned) while striking out three. Freshman Billy Harris suffered the loss for Delaware, allowing two runs and four hits in two innings of work. The Blue Hens return to action this Tuesday when they host UMBC at Bob Hannah Stadium.
