William & Mary 6, Delaware 5 March 28, 2004 Walk-Off Single in Ninth Gives Tribe Sweep of Hens Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, VA - Mike DeCarlo singled home Will Rhymes in the bottom of the ninth to give the College of William & Mary a 6-5 win over the University of Delaware baseball team and complete a three-game sweep Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park in Williamsburg, VA. Sophomore Brian Valichka had two RBI for the Hens, who dropped their sixth-straight decision to fall to 13-10 on the season and 0-3 against Colonial Athletic Association opponents. The Tribe, meanwhile, evened their conference mark at 3-3 and improved to 19-7 overall. William & Mary jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Chris Rahl and a sacrifice fly by John Lentz. The Hens rallied back to tie the score in the top of the second on an RBI groundout by Valichka and an RBI double by sophomore Brent Rogers. Delaware scored once in both the top of the third and fourth to take a 4-2 lead. Freshman Bryan Hagerich hit a sac fly to score senior Steve Van Note in the third and Valichka hit his second home run of the season in the fourth. The Tribe struck back for a single run in he bottom of the fourth as Kyle Padgett scored on a wild pitch from Delaware starter Jarame Beaupre. They tacked on two more in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead when Greg Sexton singled home both Rahl and Mitch Walk. The Blue Hens tied the game in the top of the eighth as Hagerich scored on a fielding error by Lentz off a ball hit from Valichka. Beaupre allowed five hits and four earned runs in eight innings of work, striking out three. He gave way to freshman Mitch Heckert, who allowed two hits and the winning run in 0.1 innings of work to fall to 3-1. Phil Bartleski picked up the win for the Tribe, working 1.2 innings, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out four.
