TOWSON, MD -- The University of Delaware baseball team used nine extra base hits and multiple runs in four different innings on its way to a 15-10 win over Towson University on Saturday afternoon.

Every member of the Delaware starting lineup recorded a hit and scored a run, while eight of nine starters recorded an RBI. Rightfielder Dan Richardson (right) went 2 for 4 with a home run, two RBI, scored three times and stole a base. Bryan Hagerich went 4 for 4 with a home run and four RBI.

For the second straight day Richardson drove the first pitch of the game out of the park for a home run. Towson evened the game at one in the bottom of the first as Brian Conley led off the game with a single, stole second and scored on Kyle Skellchock’s single. After the Tigers loaded the bases on a catcher’s interference and a walk, Delaware starter Todd Ozog induced a groundball to shortstop to end the Tiger threat and leave the bases loaded. It was one of three times in five innings Towson left the bases loaded.

The Blue Hens (13-10, 2-6 CAA) took control of the game with four runs in the top of the third. Alex Buchholz’s one-out single was followed by back-to-back infield singles, and Scott Shockley’s ground rule double put the Hens up 3-1. After the second out, Ryan Jablonski’s single through the right side brought home two more runs to extend the Delaware lead to 5-1. Towson answered back with a solo home run by Adam Heffron in the bottom of the third, but the Hens responded with three of their own in the fourth to increase their lead once again.

The Hens added four in the seventh and two on a ninth inning home run by Bryan Hagerich to put the game out of reach. Hagerich’s home run was his fourth in the last two days. Towson put together an eight-run ninth inning, but it was too little, too late for the Tigers.

Ozog allowed two runs and six hits over seven innings to earn the win and improve his record to 4-2 on the season. Towson starter Mike Santmyer took his second loss of the season for the Tigers (9-19, 1-10 CAA).

The two teams will meet again tomorrow for the final game of the three-game set. First pitch from Schuerholz Park is set for 1 p.m.
