  Delaware Reaches New Season-High In Runs, Ties Season High in Hits in 21-2 Win Over Wilmington College

NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware baseball team tied its season-high with 21 hits and set a new season-high in runs in a 21-2 non-league win over Wilmington College on Wednesday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium.

Delaware is currently riding a seven-game winning streak, during which the Hens have scored 110 runs. Todd Davison, Alex Buchholz, Kyle Davis and Bill Merkler each had three hits for the Blue Hens (22-13), while Ryan Jablonski (right) hit two home runs and posted four RBI. All nine Delaware starters registered at least one hit, run and RBI in the game.

The Blue Hens jumped out early on the Wildcats (22-16), scoring two runs in each of the first two innings and four in the third. The Hens scored all 21 runs in the first five innings, scoring at least twice every inning.

After Delaware went out to a 2-0 lead on a home run by Buchholz in the first inning, Wildcat centerfielder Derek Pugh homered to center lead off the second and pull Wilmington within one run. However, after that the Wildcats did not have the firepower to keep up with the explosive Blue Hens, who entered the week leading the nation in home runs per game (2.18), doubles per game (2.94), slugging percentage (.596) and ranked eighth in scoring at 8.9 runs per game.

Buchholz started on the mound for the Blue Hens for the second conseuctive Wednesday, and earned his first career win by allowing one run on two hits and striking out four over five innings. His first inning home run was his fourth in five games and he currently leads the team with 16 this season.

The Blue Hens will return to action on Friday when they begin a three-game set with CAA leader Old Dominion.
