At Delaware: Will compete for a spot in the conference rotation • fast worker who pounds strike zone.

2006: Awarded team’s most outstanding pitcher award • appeared in 17 games and made eight starts for the Hens • posted a team-high six wins • also recorded one save • ranked among the CAA leaders with five complete games, all coming consecutively • led team with 76.2 innings pitched.

2005: Made 16 appearances during redshirt freshman season, including four starts • posted a 2-3 record with a 4.57 ERA • pitched 41.1 innings • earned first collegiate win on April 7 at Temple...over the summer of 2005, pitched for the Long Island Collegians of the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League • made four starts, posting a 1-1 record with a 3.60 ERA for the Collegians.

2004: Sat out freshman year as a medical redshirt.

High School: Four-year letterwinner in baseball at Riverhead High School for coach Scott Hackal • also earned one varsity letter in football • as a senior, helped Riverhead baseball team qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 1995 • all-county and all-league selection as a junior, when he was also named team MVP • all-league selection as a sophomore • kicked a school-record 53-yard field goal in only season playing football • pitched for the Long Island Titans in the summer of 2003 under coaches Jim Clark and Eric Joyner.

Personal: Matthew Gregory Heppner • born April 22, 1985 • son of Mark and Karen Heppner • has two younger brothers • brother Jeff is a sophomore catcher at the University of Vermont • Jeff grounded out against Matt during the Hens’ series with the Catamounts last March • honor student as criminal justice major at Delaware.
