NORFOLK, VA -- Old Dominion starter Dan Hudson struck out a career-high 15 batters in his first complete game of the season, and Delaware’s Billy Harris struck out 10 in seven innings as the Old Dominion University baseball team downed the University of Delaware, 2-1, on Friday evening.

Alex Buchholz had two hits and scored the lone Delaware run. Adam Tsakonas had two hits and an RBI. Harris (right) did not allow an earned run in his seven innings. The loss snapped a season-best seven game winning streak for the Hens (14-17, 7-8 CAA). Hudson struck out every batter in the Delaware lineup at least once.

ODU posed the game’s first threat in the bottom of the third. With two outs and no one on, Chris Keenan became the first Monarch to get a hit when he beat a chopper to the right side. Mike Zahm followed with a double to put runners on second and third with two outs. Harris then struck out Anthony Shawler to end the inning.

Delaware took the momentum of getting out of a jam into the top of the fourth. With one out, Buchholz lashed a doubled down the left field line. Bryan Hagerich was hit by a pitch, and Tsakonas followed with a single through the left side to score Buchholz with the first run of the game.

The Monarchs tied the game on two errors in their half of the fourth. David Burns reached on an error and found himself on third base with two outs. Cameron Scott then grounded the first pitch he saw to Buchholz at short, but the ball kicked off Buchholz’ glove and Burns scored the tying run.

In the bottom of the eighth, Zahm tripled to right center with one out off of Delaware reliever David Slovak. Shawler then sent a sacrifice fly to right field to score Zahm with the winning run.

The Hens and Monarchs continue their series tomorrow at 5 p.m. at Bud Metheny Complex.
