NEWARK, DE -- Junior captain Alex Buchholz is the PingBaseball.com Spotlight Player in this week's new profile section on the website dedicated to college baseball.

Earlier this year, he was selected to the first team preseason All-American squad by PingBaseball.com after earning third team honors from the website for his performance last season.

Buchholz (Millersville, MD/Old Mill) was also a second-team All-Conference selection last season after pacing the Blue Hens with a .387 batting average, 27 doubles, and 63 runs batted in. He also came in second on the squad with 11 home runs and six triples.

A starter in all 55 games for Delaware in 2007, he was named the team’s Most Valuable Player and earned a place on the Colonial Athletic Association All-Tournament team after helping lead the Blue Hens to a second place finish in the conference playoffs.

Against Hofstra last season, he also turned the first unassisted triple play in Delaware history.

Buchholz enters his junior season with a .383 career batting average, the ninth highest in program history. Over the last two years, he also has recorded 43 doubles, just nine shy of 10th place on the all-time list.

Buchholz is joined this week in the spotlight section by Oral Roberts head coach Rob Walton as well as the Centenary Gents, who were selected as the highlighted coach and team.

The first Blue Hen to serve as a spotlighted player, he is also just the sixth player in the country to earn the honor this year following Santa Clara's Tommy Medica, Wright State's Jeremy Hamilton, San Jose State's Kyle Bellows, and UC Santa Barbara's Mike Ford and Mario Hollands.
