NEWARK, Del. - The Blue team overcame an early three-run deficit and posted an impressive late-inning rally to defeat the Gray squad during the first game of the University of Delaware's annual Blue/Gray World Series at Bob Hannah Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Senior centerfielder Josh Dean led the comeback effort, finishing 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI. He also scored a run and swiped two bases to round out a strong performance during the fall scrimmage.

The Blue team was also helped by a pair of new middle infielders as freshmen Hank Yates and junior transfer Dave Anderson had impressive debuts. Yates collected three singles and scored a run during the seven-inning contest, while Anderson ripped a double and knocked in a pair.

Pitcher Alex Dalsey helped quiet the Gray attack, firing three scoreless innings. He eventually struck out two and did not surrender a walk on the way to the victory.

The Gray squad was guided by shortstop D.J. Long, who finished 2-for-4 with a double and RBI. First baseman Chris Branigan also ripped a double, knocked in two, and scored a run.

Junior reliever Mike Londino had a nice effort on the mound for the Gray, allowing just one run on three hits over four strong innings of work. He also tallied three strikeouts during his appearance.

The two squads will continue the World Series on Wednesday when they meet for Game 2 at 3:30 p.m.
