HYANNIS, Mass. -- University of Delaware senior standout Ryan Cuneo, who is spending this summer playing in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League, has been selected to play in the league’s 47th Under Armour All-Star Game to be held this Thursday, July 23, at Boston’s famed Fenway Park.

Cuneo (at right), who will be a senior for head coach Jim Sherman’s Blue Hen baseball team next spring, was one of 21 players selected to compete for the West team in the summer classic and will be the starting designated hitter.

A native of Freehold, N.J. (Freehold High School), Cuneo is playing for the Hyannis Mets this summer and is currently batting .269 with three home runs and is tied for the league lead in runs batted in with 18. Predominantly a first baseman, he also leads the team with six doubles and ranks second on the team with 10 runs scored. Hyannis is currently in fourth place in the West Division standings with a mark of 12-17.

Cuneo finished a successful junior campaign with Delaware this past spring, helping the Blue Hens earn a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association playoffs. A third-year member of the squad, he garnered preseason All-CAA honors and went on to start all 48 games, including 47 at first base.

During the year, Cuneo posted a .285 batting average and finished tied for second in the CAA with 17 home runs. The left-handed slugger also posted a team-high 56 RBI during the season and tied a single-game program record with three home runs in a 27-2 victory over Hofstra on April 10.

Beginning its 114th season in 2009, the CCBL serves as the nation's premier collegiate summer league. Last year alone, over 1,000 Cape Cod alumni competed in professional baseball, including 212 at the major league level. Lance Berkman, Todd Helton, Tim Lincecum, Evan Longoria, and Chase Utley are among the more notable active alumni.

Current Cincinnati Reds farmhand Brandon Menchaca, former Major Leaguer Kevin Mench, and Jim Sherman are some of the Blue Hens who have previously competed in the Cape Cod League.

Fans can follow the game and the remainder of the season on the league’s website at: www.capecodbaseball.org.
