ATLANTA, Ga. – Former University of Delaware baseball standout Reid Gorecki has been added to the Atlanta Braves roster and will join the club for Monday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Gorecki was promoted to the big league club after the squad placed former All-Star centerfielder Nate McLouth on the disabled list.
While with the Gwinnett Braves of the International League, Gorecki appeared in 106 games and hit .286 with nine home runs and 49 RBI. During his stint in AAA, he led the team with six triples and 15 stolen bases, while he ranked second with 106 hits and 57 runs scored.
A veteran of eight minor league seasons, Gorecki has appeared in 747 games. After spending the first six years of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals organization, Gorecki signed with the Braves as a minor league free agent in 2008.
During his professional career, he has posted a .269 average, 76 home runs, and 384 RBI. An excellent base runner, he has also swiped 152 bases and legged out 34 triples in the minor leagues.
Prior to being selected in the 13th round of the 2002 draft, Gorecki starred for the Blue Hen baseball team for three seasons from 2000-02. During that time, he led the squad to two America East Championships and compiled a .373 batting average with 19 home runs. He also scored 153 runs and knocked in 111.
Gorecki’s 76 career stolen bases as a Blue Hen still rank third all-time, while his 22-game hitting streak in 2002 stands as the sixth longest in program history. He also set a school record when he posted a hit in nine consecutive at bats from April 22-26, 2002.
Gorecki is the 10th Blue Hen in program history to spend time on the active roster of a major league team. Among other notables, Kevin Mench, Mike Koplove, Dallas Green, and Hall of Famer Vic Willis also competed at the big league level.
