NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware baseball team and head coach Jim Sherman announced that the program has added three junior college transfers to its roster.

Dave Anderson, a highly-touted shortstop from Allan Hancock College, will be joined by pitcher Nick Young and catcher Aaron Mascoe, who both starred at American River College. All three will be eligible to begin competing for the Blue Hens in the spring.

Anderson played two years at Hancock and was a two-time All-Western Conference selection. A 2009 preseason All-American, he earned first-team all-league nods last year after finishing his sophomore season with a .309 batting average and a team-high nine stolen bases.

An All-State selection at Faith Lutheran High School in Las Vegas before heading to college., he helped lead the Crusaders to three state championships. He also earned All-State honors in basketball and soccer and led the hoops team to two state titles.

Mascoe played one year at American River College after joining the program for the 2009 season. A great defensive catcher, he gunned down seven of 13 attempted base stealers during the year. At the plate, he also finished the season with a .276 batting average.

Before arriving at American River, he played for El Camino High School where he was named the team’s top defensive player. He also hit .262 and led the team with a .985 fielding percentage during his senior season.

Young appeared in eight games with four starts on the mound during his sophomore year at American River after playing seven games at UC San Diego in 2007. During his time with the Beavers, he tossed 27.2 innings of work and posted a 5.53 ERA. An Academic All-Conference selection, he was also the only pitcher on the staff to fire a complete game and pick up a save during the year.

A former standout at Granite Bay High School, he was a first team All-Metro League selection and a preseason All-American pick during his senior season. An all-around athlete, he was also an honorable mention all-conference pick in basketball.

The three transfers will join a program that is coming off a successful 2009 season. Last year, the Blue Hens advanced to the third day of the Colonial Athletic Association championships. The team also captured a share of the Liberty Bell Classic title as the top squad in the Greater-Philadelphia area.
