RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware standout pitcher Rich O’Donald has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week after picking up his second career win against Old Dominion on Sunday.

During his fifth outing of the season, O’Donald fired a complete game three-hitter while leading the Blue Hens to a 3-2 victory over the Monarchs. With his effort, he became the first Delaware pitcher to throw a nine-inning complete game since Todd Ozog in 2007.

Against Old Dominion, the right-hander struck out four and allowed just one earned run. He also sent the Monarchs down in order six times during the game.

His performance marked the first time a Delaware freshman twirled a nine-inning complete game since Jason Rogers accomplished the feat against George Mason during the 2002 CAA Tournament.

With the victory, O’Donald evened his overall record and improved to 2-0 at Bob Hannah Stadium. During three home starts this season, the Wilmington native has allowed just 10 hits and three earning runs in 23 innings of work. He has also struck out 10 and posted a 1.17 ERA at home.

Overall, O’Donald stands at 2-2 with a 4.64 ERA in 33.0 innings. He has held his opponents to a .218 batting average, marking the second best mark on the team.

The Rookie of the Week honor is the second award of the season for O’Donald. On March 16, he was named the CAA Pitcher of the Week after firing eight innings of scoreless ball against Marist.

Along with O’Donald, the conference office selected George Mason’s Justin Bour and Towson’s Jason Stifler as Co-Players of the Week, while Northeastern’s Ryan Quigley was honored as the top pitcher.
