RICHMOND, Va. - Senior third baseman Carlos Alonso has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week after leading the Blue Hens to a pair of victories against Maryland over the weekend.

During the three-game series with the Terrapins, Alonso hit .467 after clubbing seven hits in 15 at bats. A staple at the top of the Blue Hen batting order, he also led the team with three doubles and tied for the top spot with five runs scored.

In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, Alonso helped Delaware cruise past Maryland, 17-3, in what proved to be the most lop-sided victory in the history of the two programs' 99-year rivalry. During the contest, Alonso went 4-for-6 with three doubles, an RBI, and three runs scored. His efforts helped the squad score at least one run in all nine innings.

Alonso quickly continued his hot streak in the nightcap after clocking the first pitch he saw over the leftfield fence for his second home run of the season. Eventually, he finished the game with two hits and a pair of runs scored. With that performance, he became the first Hen in more than a decade to start the season with five consecutive multi-hit performances.

He wrapped up his week with a hit and RBI on Sunday during the team’s 4-1 victory over the Terps. His seventh-inning single extended his career-long hitting streak to 19 games dating back to last season. It also marked his fourth consecutive game with at least one RBI.

In six games this year, Alonso leads the team with a .483 batting average, four doubles, and 10 runs scored. He also has posted a .516 on-base percentage to go along with a pristine 1.000 fielding percentage at the hot corner.

During his career, Alonso has reached base safely by either a hit or walk in each of his 54 games at Delaware. Overall, he sports a .393 batting average with 24 doubles, 44 RBI, and 69 runs scored.

Along with Alonso, the CAA honored Northeastern’s Kevin Ferguson as the Pitcher of the Week, while VCU’s Blake Hauser took home Rookie of the Week laurels.
