On what was a very soggy day at Parsons Field, Delaware got out to a quick 2-0 advantage in the first inning when Casey Fahy (Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) singled to left and then stole his team-leading 21st stolen base to put the Hens immediately in scoring position.

Freshman Reid Gorecki (East Rockaway, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) followed Fahy with an RBI single of his own, advancing on a throw to the plate. Gorecki then stole third and scored on a throwing error by catcher Luke Carlin, to put the Hens up 2-0.

Delaware (22-12, 9-2 America East) then gave control of the game to McGuire (Wantagh, NY/MacArthur). He gave up just two runs, one in the second and one in third, as the Huskies tied the score at two.

In the first three innings, McGuire gave up just three hits, one an RBI double to Ben Beck in the second inning. McGuire (8-1) then shut down the Huskies, giving up only two more hits the rest of the way out.

On the day, he gave up just two runs, one earned run, on five hits while allowing no base on balls. He was in command as he sat down eight batters on strikes.

Delaware took the lead for good in the fourth when Vince Vukovich (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern), who reached on a Hernan Guerrero error, scored on a Jason Gillespie two-out wild pitch.

The Hens added one run in the fifth, three in the sixth and one in the seventh to secure the victory.

Delaware got multiple-hit games from Fahy, Gorecki, Kolodzey (Cherry Hill, NJ/East), Schneider (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) and Steve Harden (Wilmington, DE/Dickinson) with Kolodzey and Gorecki each knocking in two runs.

The game with Northeastern was Delaware head coach Bob Hannah's 1,500th career game as a coach.

Game two of today's doubleheader was washed out due to rain. Northeastern (14-12, 9-4 America East) and Delaware are scheduled to battle again Saturday at 11 a.m at Friedman Diamond in a doubleheader.
