Delaware 11, Rider 2 March 7, 2000   NEWARK, DE - Behind a solid day from freshmen John Schneider and Reid Gorecki at the plate and Jason Vincent on the mound, the University of Delaware defeated Rider University, 11-2 at Delaware Diamond, Tuesday afternoon. Delaware (3-3) had a great day on the mound from Vincent (Seaford, DE/Seaford). He battled out of a first inning jam as lead-off batter Darren Pandolfini hit a triple, but Vincent got Rich Brooks to pop out to shortstop and struck out the next two batters. Vincent got help from two defensive double plays in the third and sixth innings. He is now 1-0 on the season. The Hens never trailed in the game as Steve Harden (Wilmington, DE/Dickinson) singled home Chris Kolodzey (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) in the second. In the third, the Hens manufactured a run on two stolen bases by Casey Fahy (Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Bobby Fry (Anaheim Hills, CA/Canyon). The Hens picked up four in the third as Gorecki (East Rockaway, NY/Kellenberg Mem.) singled and stole second. He and Harden, who reached on a walk, scored on a Vince Vukovich triple (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern). Vukovich came home on a Schneider (Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) homerun, the first of his college career. The Hens had yet another big inning in the seventh, scoring five runs highlighted by a Gorecki homerun, also the first of his college career. Rider (1-4) picked up its two runs in the top half of the seventh highlighted by a Tim Superka double that scored Jeff Timperman.
