WILLIAMSBURG, VA -- For the second straight day a late Delaware rally fell short as the Blue Hens lost at William & Mary, 6-5, in baseball action at Plumeri Park. Although the scene was much tamer than Saturday's 23-19 slugfest, Delaware (4-5) trailed, 6-4, entering the eighth inning. Andrew Salvo's RBI ground out in the eighth brought Delaware within a run. In the ninth, Delaware's Peter Maestrales led off with a double. The Tribe (15-6) then called on closer Ben Shepard, who promptly hit John Schneider with hit by a pitch to put the go-ahead run on first base. However, Shepard threw out Maestrales at third on an attempted sacrifice. Then, Shepard got Kris Dufner to foul out and pinch-hitter Doug Eitelman to bounce into a fielder's choice to end the ball game. Jason Vincent (1-1) went the distance for Delaware in a losing effort, scattering 13 hits over eight innings. However, he was hurt by three William & Mary home runs, including two by Mike O'Kelly. Ryan Bogardus (4-1) got the win for William and Mary, scattering five hits and allowing just one earned run in eight-plus innings. It was the fifth save of the season for Shepard. The Blue Hens return home to host St. Joseph's Tuesday at 3 p.m. AGATE:
