WILMINGTON, Del.-Vince Vukovich's two-out triple in the bottom of the seventh inning scored two runs and broke a 3-3 tie as top-seeded University of Delaware defeated fourth-seeded Northeastern University, 7-3, in the America East Baseball Championship at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium.

Hernan Guerrero homered to start the Northeastern sixth

Vince Vukovich smacked a two-out triple to break the game open.

The Blue Hens, 42-13, play Towson University in a winner's bracket game Friday at 3:30 p.m. The Huskies, 18-31, play Maine at 12 noon in an elimination game.

Northeastern starter Jason Gillespie was cruising along with a 3-0 lead, having allowed five hits in six shutout innings before the Blue Hens erupted for six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Kris Dufner led off the inning with a single to left field and advanced to second when the ball was mishandled by leftfielder Ben Beck for an error. Casey Fahy drew a one-out walk and Andrew Salvo followed with an RBI single to right to score Dufner to cut the lead to 3-1. Reid Gorecki singled to right field to score Fahy and move Salvo to third and Peter Maestrales was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Chris Kolodzey grounded to short to force Maestrales at second, but beat the throw to first base to score Salvo with the tying run. Vukovich, the MVP of last year's America East Championship, then tripled down the right field line to score two and chase Gillespie, 1-4. John Schneider greeted reliever Chris Walsh with an infield single to third to score Vukovich for a 6-3 Blue Hens lead.

The Huskies scored three times in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie. Delaware starter Rich McGuire had allowed just two hits through 5.1 innings when Hernan Guerrero hit a one-out home run to left center field for a 1-0 lead. Luke Carlin then walked and scored on an RBI double to left center field by Coley O'Donnell. Ben Beck followed with a double to straightaway center field to score O'Donnell for a 3-0 lead.

Delaware added a run in the eighth inning. Steve Harden led off with an infield single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Fahy then beat out a bunt single to put runners on the corners with no outs. Salvo delivered a sacrifice fly to center field to score Harden.

McGuire pitched his ninth complete-game in 13 starts this season to improve to 10-3. He allowed six hits, striking out five and walking two.
