Pedro Pena scored the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth to extend Northeastern's season.

Jordan Thomson recorded 14 strikeouts, but got a no-decision.

WILMINGTON, Del.- Mike Wysong's single scored Pedro Pena with the winning run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as Northeastern University defeated Maine, 5-4, in the America East Tournament at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium.

The Huskies, 19-31, await the loser of the Delaware-Towson game later tonight. The Black Bears close their season at 36-15.

Pena led off the ninth inning with a double down the left field line. He advanced to third on a sacrifice by Brad Czarnowski. Wysong, who had entered the game in the eighth inning after starting third baseman Nick Graves was injured while running the bases, promptly delivered the game winning hit with a line drive to left field.

Maine had tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning when Quin Peel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs. Mike Ross led off the inning with a single of reliever Brendan Ryan, 3-2. Joe Drapeau then delivered a single to center field to put runners at the corners with no outs. Ryan then struck out the next two batters, but a wild pitch allowed Pete Saunders, who had pinch run for Drapeau, to advance to second base. Ryan then intentionally walked Alain Picard to load the bases and hit Peel with the next pitch to tie the game, 4-4.

Both teams received strong outings from their starting pitchers. Northeastern rookie Jordan Thomson allowed four hits and three runs - two earned - in eight innings before giving way to Ryan. Thomson struck out a career high 14 and walked three. Maine's Simon Stoner allowed five hits and four runs - three earned - in 7.1 innings before giving way to Matt Truman, 1-5. Stoner struck out 10 and walked three.

Maine scored an unearned run in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. Mike Livulpi reached on an error with one out and advanced to third on a single by Aaron Young. Picard's groundout scored Livulpi.

Northeastern answered in the bottom of the sixth inning. Graves singled to lead off the inning and Hernan Guerrero followed with a walk. A passed ball moved the runners to second and third and Coley O'Donnell's groundout scored Graves with Guerrero moving to third. Guerrero then scored on a wild pitch for a 2-1 Huskies lead.

Maine took a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning. Young hit a solo home run to right center field with one out to tie the game, 2-2. With two outs, Peel walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Pat Tobin then singled to center field to score the go-ahead run.

Northeastern answered again in the bottom of the eighth inning. Wysong led off with a single to center field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Guerrero. Luke Carlin doubled to right field to score Wysong with the tying run and chase Stoner from the game. Truman intentionally walked Coley O'Donnell and Ben Beck singled through the left side to score Carlin for a 4-3 lead.
