High School: Standout football and baseball player for William Penn High School, the alma mater of UD head coach Jim Sherman...two-time all-state pitcher who was named the 2001 Player of the Year by the Wilmington News Journal...three-time All-Blue Hen Conference selection as both a pitcher and third baseman...struck out a state record 18 batters in a one-hitter vs. Indian River as a senior...posted a 9-2 record and struck out 111 batters in just 64 innings of work as a junior when he owned one of the state's lowest earned run averages (0.55)...earned second-team All-State football honors as a wide receiver...also played defensive back and handled kicking and punting duties...student council President and member of National Honor Society.
