UD Baseball defeats LaSalle
9-1 for Second Straight Win
NEWARK, DE -- The University of Delaware baseball
team (3-11) picked up where it left off yesterday slugging
its way to a 9-1 victory over LaSalle for the Hens 12th
straight win over the Explorers.
The Blue Hens struck early on a first inning leadoff home
run by Andrew Salvo, who has now hit four salvo's in
his last five games. LaSalle evened up the score at one in
the top of the second inning, but Delaware answered in the
bottom of the second on a grandslam by shortstop Peter
Maestrales, the Hens second slam in as many days.
Delaware picked up one more run in the fifth inning and
two in the sixth inning to push the score out to 8-1. The
Hens got one more run, but Bryan Porcelli did not
need the support pitching eight innings and giving up only
one run while striking out five batters.
Delaware was led by Maestrales who hit a grand slam and
went two for five on the day, while Salvo and Frank
DiMaggio both went three for four on the day and each
had one stolen base. Porcelli had his second straight strong
pitching performance going eight innings and allowing no
earned runs. He has given up two earned runs in his last 15
innings of pitching.
For LaSalle Jordan Nicgorski scored the only run, while
Hal Mitchell had a rough outing going seven innings and
giving up seven runs and 13 hits.
Delaware will be in action on Sunday when it travels to
Philadelphia to take on LaSalle at 1 p.m.
