UD Baseball wins third straight game 4-2 over
LaSalle
PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The University of Delaware baseball
team (4-11) won its third straight game by defeating LaSalle
(6-8) in a rain shortened six inning game 4-2 on Sunday in
Philadelphia, Pa.
Both teams were scoreless for the first three and a half
innings until LaSalle broke through with a Mike Bell single
to bring in Kevin Ibach and then on double play by Matt
Duffy that plated Bell to put the Explorers up 2-0 after
four innings. However, Delaware struck right back in the top
of the fifth inning on a two out RBI single by Andrew
Salvo which scored Chris Kolodzey and then on a
three-run home run by Vince Vukovich which put the
Hens up 4-2 after four and a half innings. Vic Sage
came in for the Hens and pitched two scoreless innings
until the game was prematurely halted due to rain. Sage
picked up the win for Delaware while Toby Fisher who pitched
five innings and gave up four runs picked up the loss for
LaSalle.
Delaware was led by Vukovich who hit the game winning
three-run homer and was two for three with three RBI on the
day. Salvo drove in the other run for Delaware. Jeff
Romond was the starting pitcher for the Blue Hens and
pitched four innings giving up two runs and striking out two
before Sage came in for relief and picked up his first win
on the season.
LaSalle had runs driven in by Mike Cavallaro and by Matt
Duffy and got five innings out of the starter Fisher who got
the loss giving up four earned runs.
Delaware will be in action next on Thursday March 25, at
the Delaware Diamond when the Hens take on Temple at 3
p.m.
