UD baseball outslugs Rider 13-10 in midweek
slugfest
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- Frank DiMaggio and Jamie
McSherry each homered and accounted for six of the Blue
Hens 13 RBI on the day as Delaware (23-17) defeated Rider
(23-21) in a 13-10 slugfest on Thursday at Richard Daly
Field.
Rider jumped out to leads of 5-2 in the third and 8-6 in
the fifth before Delaware used a four run sixth highlighted
by RBI singles from McSherry and Chris Kolodzey to
take the lead for good. Delaware added insurance on a
DiMaggio two-run homer hit in the eighth inning. Vic
Sage picked up the win for Delaware pitching three
innings in relief to move to 4-2 on the season.
Delaware also got four hit games from Kevin Mench
and Ken Giles to help lead the Hens to the victory.
Five of Delaware's starters had multi-hit games as Delaware
banged out 17 hits on the afternoon.
Rider collected 14 hits on the day with Dave Apollon and
Josh Loftin picking up three each on the day.
Delaware will be back in action on Saturday as the Hens
travel up to Hartford, Conn. to take on the Hawks in a
conference doubleheader at 12 noon.
