Delaware Baseball Falls to Richmond, 10-0

CONWAY, SC -- Left fielder Jamey Moylan knocked in three runs and Casey Burns tossed a five-hitter and struck out 11 batters as Richmond University kept the University of Delaware winless on the season with a 10-0 non-league baseball win Saturday at Coastal Carolina University Stadium.

The Spiders (2-3) scored two runs in the first inning and three more in the third off Delaware starter Jeff Romond (0-1) and moved on to the victory. The Blue Hens (0-3), who close out their four- game swing in South Carolina Sunday vs. Kent (OH), are off to their worst start since going 0-4 in 1950. The loss also marked the first time Delaware has been shut out since 1996.

Richmond banged out eight hits, including two each by Moylan, Mike Dwyer, Josh Lamberg, and Rich Smith. Lamberg and Smith each had run scoring doubles.

Delaware collected five hits on the day as first baseman Ken Giles had two, including a double. Catcher Jamie McSherry also had a double for the Hens. John Kincaid and Chris Kolodzey had the other Delaware base hits. Romond pitched four innings, allowing eight hits and seven earned runs. Tim Lorito went four innings in his Delaware debut, allowing just one earned run and no hits.
