Delaware Baseball Falls to Richmond,
10-0
CONWAY, SC -- Left fielder Jamey Moylan knocked in
three runs and Casey Burns tossed a five-hitter and struck
out 11 batters as Richmond University kept the University of
Delaware winless on the season with a 10-0 non-league
baseball win Saturday at Coastal Carolina University
Stadium.
The Spiders (2-3) scored two runs in the first inning and
three more in the third off Delaware starter Jeff
Romond (0-1) and moved on to the victory. The Blue Hens
(0-3), who close out their four- game swing in South
Carolina Sunday vs. Kent (OH), are off to their worst start
since going 0-4 in 1950. The loss also marked the first time
Delaware has been shut out since 1996.
Richmond banged out eight hits, including two each by
Moylan, Mike Dwyer, Josh Lamberg, and Rich Smith. Lamberg
and Smith each had run scoring doubles.
Delaware collected five hits on the day as first baseman
Ken Giles had two, including a double. Catcher
Jamie McSherry also had a double for the Hens.
John Kincaid and Chris Kolodzey had the other
Delaware base hits. Romond pitched four innings, allowing
eight hits and seven earned runs. Tim Lorito went
four innings in his Delaware debut, allowing just one earned
run and no hits.
