The Ice Arenas/Ice Skating Science Development Center include the old ice arena (Gold Ice Arena, constructed in 1971) and the new facility (Fred Rust Ice Arena, constructed in 1988). The new rink features Olympic sized ice area, bleachers that seat 2,500 people, a VIP lounge, two media areas, a ballet room for off-the-ice training, a disc jockey booth, a pro shop, four locker rooms and a costume design room. At the rear is the sports science laboratory in which research is conducted in many sports, not just ice skating. Public skating lessons are available from age four and up.
