February 11, 1989
The Delaware women’s swim team used four titles, including three individual championships, to win the Hens’ first ever East Coast Conference crown after easily outdistancing the field at the Carpenter Sports Building during the three-day competition. During the final day, Heather McMurtrie captured the 200-yard backstroke title after winning the event in 2:11.89. It was her second individual title of the tournament after she also took the 100-backstroke in 1:01.39 earlier in the meet. Delaware also received victories from Nell Rose Foreman in the 1-Meter Dive and the 400-Medley Relay team, which was anchored by McMurtrie as well as Wendy Sands, Jennifer Horner, and Barbara Ann Testa. Those four also placed second in the 200-Medley Relay after finishing in a school-record time of 1:52.56. In the final standings, the Hens notched 809 points to outdistance runner-up Drexel by 182. |
