Delaware's Leah Geib and Amanda Warrington Named STX/NFHCA Second Team All-Americans

GLEN ALLEN, VA (Nov. 24, 2004) -- University of Delaware field hockey players Leah Geib (Schwenksville, PA/Souderton - right) and Amanda Warrington (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen - left) were named to the STX/NFHCA All-America second team Monday.

This season marks the third straight year that Delaware has been represented on one of the All-America teams, while six Blue Hens have earned the honor since 1994. This is also the first time since 1981 that two or more players have been named to the team from Delaware.

Geib, a senior tri-captain and an Academic All-American nominee, was named to the STX/NFHCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region first team and the All-Colonial Athletic Association second team. She represented Delaware in the North/South Senior All-Star Game, and was named to the CAA All-Tournament Team as the Blue Hens won their first CAA championship.

A conference player of the week selection on September 20 and a womensfieldhockey.com Honor Roll selection on October 24, Geib recorded seven goals and seven assists on the season to rank fourth on the team with 21 points. She recorded a key defensive save in a 2-0 win over Princeton during the regular season, and in the CAA Tournament Semifinals scored the Blue Hens' first goal against conference power Old Dominion to tie the game and send it into overtime.

Geib started all 84 games in her four-year career, tying a Delaware record with fellow senior tri-captain Erica LaBar. The Blue Hens have been nationally ranked in all four of her seasons as a player, reaching as high as No. 12 this year.

Warrington was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year, and was also named to the All-CAA first team and the STX/NFHCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region first team. She was named the CAA Championship Tournament Most Outstanding Performer while earning a spot on the All-Tournament team while leading the Blue Hens to the title.

A womensfieldhockey.com Player of the Week and weekly honor roll selection in 2004, Warrington ended the 2004 season with 10 goals and four assists to rank third on Delaware with 24 points. She scored seven goals in a five-game stretch between September 22 and October 3, recording a goal in each game, three of which were game-winners. Warrington also scored the first goal of the game in the NCAA Tournament First Round game against Maryland. Additionally, Warrington has started all 45 games of her collegiate career.

Delaware went 15-7 this season, defeating eight-time defending conference champion Old Dominion, 2-1 in overtime, in the CAA Tournament semifinals and knocking off Hofstra, 5-1, in the final to win its first ever CAA title.

The Blue Hens then made their third NCAA Tournament appearance in school history and the first since 1998 as Delaware fell to Maryland, 5-2, in the first round.
