Field Hockey Heads to Williamsburg, VA as
Third Seed in CAA

WILLIAMSBURG,
VA - -The No. 17 University of Delaware
field hockey team (13-6) travels to host
William & Mary this weekend to take
part in the annual Colonial Athletic
Association Championship
Tournament.
Delaware,
which is making its ninth straight
appearance in a league semifinal, will be
featured as the third seed in this year's
tournament and will face second seed and
No. 9 ranked Old Dominion on Saturday at
2:30 in the semfinals.
Host
William & Mary, the top seed and 13th
ranked team in the nation, will take on
No. 4 seed Hofstra in the first semifinal
game at 12 noon. The championship game
will be held Sunday at 1 p.m.
Delaware,
William & Mary, and Old Dominion all
finished the 2004 regular season with an
overall record of 13-6 while Hofstra ended
it's season 12-7.
Old
Dominion has captured the CAA Tournament
title each of the last eight years and 12
times in the last 13 seasons.The Monarchs
defeated Delaware 5-0 in last year's
championship game and downed William &
Mary 2-0 in the 2002
championship.
Delaware,
led by All-Americans Erica LaBar and Jessi
Balmer (right), is looking to capture its
first tournament title since winning the
East Coast Conference title in 1990.
