15 Delaware Field Hockey Defeats La Salle
1-0 in Overtime
NEWARK,
DE (October 15, 2004) -- The No. 15
University of Delaware field hockey team
defeated La Salle on Friday, 1-0, for the
13th straight time.
All-American
Erica LaBar (New Castle, DE/William Penn -
at right-) scored the game-winning goal in
overtime to lift the Hens over the
Explorers.
In
the first half Delaware held the Explorers
scoreless yet couldn't find the back of
the cage despite outshooting La Salle 6-0
and recording five penalty
corners.
In
the second half both teams were held
scoreless once again as La Salle outshot
the Hens 6-2. Delaware had three more
penalty corners while the Explorers had
two, but neither team could convert. LaBar
recorded a key defensive save on a Laura
Farley shot to hold the Expolorers
scoreless after Megan Allen (Virginia
Beach, VA/Kempsville) posted a save on La
Salle's Jillian Moser.
The
Blue Hens were also awarded two penalty
strokes, but both attempts went
wide.
In
the first overtime period, LaBar scored
the game-winning goal at 5:33 off an
assist by Katie Evans (Newtown Square,
PA/Villa Marie Academy). The goal came off
the last of Delaware's 10 corners on the
night.
Allen
completed the game with four saves while
La Salle's Bolger recorded stopped seven
shots.
Delaware,
which is 9-6 on the season, faces
Lafayette on October 19 at Rullo Stadium
at 7 p.m.
