17 Delaware Field Hockey Team Posts Eighth
Shutout of Season, Defeating Lafayette,
2-0
NEWARK,
DE (October 19, 2004) -- Erica LaBar (New
Castle, DE/WIlliam Penn - at right) scored
the game-winner for the No. 17 University
of Delaware field hockey team, which took
a 1-0 lead in the first half and never
looked back to record their second
straight shutout, and eighth of the
season, in defeating Lafayette 2-0 Tuesday
night at Rullo Stadium.
Delaware
took an early lead in the first half as
LaBar scored her ninth goal of the season
hooking up with Leah Geib (Schwenksville,
PA/Souderton) and Katie Evans (Newtown
Square, PA/Villa Maria Academy)on a
perfect corner at 5:41. The Blue Hens
tallied 12 corners in the first half as
the Leopards Jill Lambert posted eight
saves.
Delaware
started the second half missing their
third straight penalty stroke in the last
two games at 30:55 but rallied back as
Carly Campana (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway)
scored her first goal of the season at
23:37 assisted by Amanda Warrington
(Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen).
Blue
Hen goalkeeper Megan Allen (Virginia
Beach, VA/Kempsville) recorded five saves
while Lafayette goalkeeper Lambert posted
17. Delaware outshot the Leopards 25-6 and
allowed only two corners to an
overwhelming 17.
Delaware
returns to conference competition on
Friday, October 22 when they take on
Hofstra at 7 p.m. at Rullo
Stadium.
