Leads Blue Hen Field Hockey Team Past
Saint Joseph's 4-1
NEWARK, DE
(Sept. 17, 2004)-- Erica Labar (New
Castle, DE/William Penn - at right) scored
two goals to lead the No. 14 ranked
University of Delaware field hockey team
to a 4-1 win over Saint Joseph's on Friday
at Rullo Stadium.
The win
improves the Blue Hens to 4-2 while the
Hawks fall to 3-3.
Saint
Joseph's Katelyn O'Brien opened the
scoring for the Hawks just 2:32 into the
game off an assist from Maureen Casserly.
O'Brien has now scored the last five Saint
Joseph's goals, spanning the last two
games.
LaBar tied
the game at 21:38 by scoring on a penalty
corner off the sticks of Leah Geib
(Schwenksville, PA/Souderton) and Katie
Evans (Newton Square, PA/Villa Maria
Academy). Jessi Balmer (Telford,
PA/Christopher Dock) gave the Blue Hens
the lead less than two minutes later off
an assist from Carly Campana (Piscatawy,
NJ/Piscataway), who recorded her first
career point on the play. LaBar scored her
second goal of the game, again off assists
by Geib and Evans, at the 29:07 mark, to
give the Blue Hens a 3-1 halftime
lead.
Lauren
Carr (West Chester, PA/Downington) closed
the scoring off an assist from Amber
Deimler (Hershey, PA/Hershey) with 23:32
remaining in the game.
Megan
Allen (Virginia Beach, VA/Kempsville)
stopped three shots in goal for Delaware
while Rebecca Cunfer made six saves for
the Hawks, who were out-shot, 17-7, by the
Blue Hens.
Delaware
will host second-ranked University of
Maryland on September 19 at 1 p.m. at
Rullo Stadium.
