Delaware vs. Boston
University
Sept. 26, 1999
Boston University 4, Delaware 1
NEWARK, DE - A three-goal outburst
in the second half propelled Boston University to a 4-1
victory over Delaware in field hockey action at Rullo
Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The loss was Delaware's fourth straight
and dropped them to 3-5 overall, 0-2 in America East. Boston
University, ranked No. 15 in last week's NFHCA Top 20 poll,
raised its record to 6-1, 3-0 in conference play.
The Terriers took a 1-0 lead into
halftime thanks to a goal by Samantha Stuart. Stuart scored
off of a penalty corner 5:11 into the game with assists by
Kate Cusick and Jaclyn Mele.
The score could have been more as Boston
University had a 12-1 advantage in penalty corners in the
first half. However, Delaware goalkeeper Kelly Ottati
recorded six saves in keeping it a one-goal game. She
finished the day with 14 saves.
Delaware tied the game early in the
second half on a penalty stroke by Mia Callahan. The
goal was Callahan's third of the season.
The Terriers retook the lead, however, a
little more than five minutes later when Mele scored off of
a scramble in front of the goal following a penalty
corner.
Delaware had a chance to tie with 16:24
remaining when Callahan lined-up for another penalty stroke.
However, her try went wide of the net and the momentum swung
back in Boston University's favor.
With that, Angela Jamieson added two
insurance goals four minutes apart to keep the Terriers
perfect in conference action.
Boston University held a 23-7 advantage
in shots, but several of those shots on net came after the
teams had clear their benches.
Delaware will play host to No. 14
Princeton Wednesday at Rullo Stadium. Game time is 7
p.m.
