NEWARK, DE -- On the strength of a
four-goal first half, Delaware defeated Hofstra, 4-0, in
field hockey action Sunday afternoon at Rullo
Stadium.
The Blue Hens, who have won four straight
and five of their last six, got on the board 8:26 into the
game when Megan McGuin deflected a ball from
Stephanie Dorsch into the back of the net for her
second goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
Senior Rachel Barger gave Delaware
a 2-0 lead with 14:12 remaining in the half when she scored
off a Sara Hills pass. The goal was Barger's fourth
of the season and gave the Springfield, VA native 50 points
for her career.
Just 2:28 later, Dorsch, a freshman from
Wilmington, DE, scored her first collegiate goal unassisted
to make it a 3-0 game.
Mia Callahan closed the scoring
just three seconds before intermission with a nifty backhand
shot for her sixth goal of the season.
Kelly Ottati recorded two saves in
her sixth shutout of the season. The senior from Hampton
Bays, NY has now allowed just two goals in the last six
games.
Delaware outshot Hofstra, 23-3, for the
game.
With the loss, Hofstra dropped to 3-13,
1-6 in America East.
Delaware (8-8, 3-2) will take to the road
Wednesday to face Lafayette at 3 p.m.
