ORONO, MAINE -- On the strength of
second half goals by Jen Johnson and Kristi Knights, Maine
shutout Delaware, 2-0, in field hockey action Sunday at
Morse Field.
After a scoreless first half, Johnson got
the Black Bears (9-10, 3-5 America East) on the board with
27:07 remaining off of a feed from Shannon
Clifford.
Maine got an insurance goal with 14:24
left when Knights scored off a Katie Hedges pass.
Danielle Burke recorded 13 saves for her
fifth shutout of the season for Maine. Kelly Ottati
had 13 saves for Delaware (9-11, 4-4 America
East).
The Blue Hens will be the No. 4 seed in
next weekend's four-team America East Championship. Delaware
will take on top-seeded Boston University at Nickerson Field
on the Boston University campus at 5 p.m. Friday. No. 2 New
Hampshire and No. 3 Northeastern will meet in the second
game Friday at 7:30 p.m. The winners meet Sunday at 1 p.m.
for the conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA
Tournament.
