DURHAM, NH - The University of
Delaware fell to the University of New Hampshire, 2-1,
Friday in field hockey.
Delaware (9-10, 4-3 America East) was
battling from behind most of the game. Just 4:45 into the
game, New Hampshire's Nicole Bartko scored off an assist
from Cameron Schmitz. The Wildcats added a second goal off
a penalty corner at 9:19, when Marcie Boyer put the ball in
the net off of a Jessica Russell feed.
Delaware got on the board at 53:06 (18:06
into the second half) when America East Player of the Week
Juli Byrd scored her ninth goal of the season off
assists from Megan Fortunato and Mia Callahan.
With the win, New Hampshire (11-6, 6-1
America East) has clinched a second seed in the upcoming
America East tournament and will play the three seed
Northeastern on Friday at Boston University's Nickerson
Field. Delaware will be the fourth seed and face the one
seed and host Boston University Terriers at Nickerson Field
at 5 p.m. on Friday.
Delaware will play one more regular
season match on Sunday, when it travels to Maine for a 12
noon start.
