Delaware vs.
Northeastern
Sept. 24, 1999
Northeastern 2, Delaware 0
NEWARK, DE -- Jackie Carl played
the spoiler in the first-ever night field hockey game on the
Delaware campus as she scored a pair of first half goals to
lead Northeastern, 2-0, over Delaware Friday
night.
Carl's first tally of the night came with
28:21 remaining in the first half off of a penalty corner.
Kelly Williams and Heidi Benson recorded the assists on the
play.
Then, with 12:43 remaining in the half,
Northeastern's same combo lined-up for another penalty
corner try. Carl's shot hit a Delaware player's foot
directly in front of the goal, resulting in a penalty
stroke. Carl connected on the stroke, beating Delaware
keeper Kelly Ottati to the bottom right corner of the
net.
The Blue Hens dominated the second half.
After Northeastern held an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal
and a 5-2 advantage in penalty corners at the half, Delaware
shutdown Northeastern and held a 15-0 advantage on shots and
a 13-0 advantage in penalty corners.
However, Delaware could not capitalize on
any of the opportunities.
The loss dropped Delaware to 3-4 (0-1
America East) on the season, marking the first time the Blue
Hens have fallen below .500 since September 1993.
Northeastern is now 2-5 (1-0 America East).
