Northwestern
Sept. 11, 1999
Delaware 3, Northwestern 2 (2 OT)
MUNCIE, IN -- Senior forward
Rachel Barger scored the game-tying goal in the
closing seconds of regulation and later the game-winner in
the second overtime as Delaware outlasted Northwestern, 3-2,
in a field hockey game played at Ball State University
Saturday afternoon.
Barger, a native of Springfield, VA,
scored her first goal of the season with three seconds
remaining in regulation time, beating Northwestern netminder
Jessica Yates to tie the game, 2-2.
After a scoreless first overtime, Barger
gave the Blue Hens their second win of the season by blowing
a rebound past Yates for the game-winner.
Northwestern took an early 1-0 lead when
Kristy Whitman connected on a direct corner play pass from
Lindsay Wright just 3:55 into the game.
Juli Byrd answered for Delaware
with 5:56 remaining in the first half on a direct corner
conversion with helpers from Barger and Sara
Hills.
Wright gave Northwestern (1-3) a 2-1 lead

heroics.
The double-overtime game was Delaware's
