Delaware 3, West Chester 1
NEWARK, DE -- The struggling
Delaware offense came alive Wednesday night with a 3-1 win
in field hockey action at Rullo Stadium Wednesday
night.
The Blue Hens had scored just five goals
in their last nine games before Wednesday's outburst. The
win broke a five-game home losing streak, was their third in
the last four games and raised their record to 6-8
overall.
West Chester (5-7) scored first when
Marisa Mitchell scored off a feed from Natalie Landis with
24:34 remaining in the first half. Mitchell was set-up for
the initial shot off of a penalty corner, but passed off to
Landis, who passed back to Mitchell for the
score.
Delaware tied the score, however, just
3:19 later when senior Katie Wirth scored unassisted
to tie the game, 1-1.
The Blue Hens put the game away with a
pair of second half goals. The first score came 4:30 into
the half on Juli Byrd's penalty corner score. Byrd's
fifth goal of the season came with assists from Rachel
Barger and Sara Hills.

scored on a scramble in front of the net to put the game
away.
Delaware outshot West Chester, 15-7, and
held a 15-7 advantage in penalty corners, including a 13-2
