BOSTON, MA -- Casey Holman scored
twice as Boston University held off a late charge and
defeated Delaware, 3-2, in field hockey action at Nickerson
Field Sunday afternoon.
Holman's second tally of the day gave
Boston University a 3-1 lead with 19:40 to play. However,
Freshman Erin Shaklee scored her second goal of the season
to pull Delaware to within one with 11:44 to
play.
The Blue Hens, though, could not come up
with the equalizer.
Delaware (3-6, 1-1 America East) had
jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 1:08 into the game. Kate
Johnson scored off of a feed from Stephanie
Dorsch to give the Blue Hens an early
advantage.
The Terriers (5-2, 2-0 America East) tied
the game just under nine minutes later on an unassisted goal
by Robyn Kenney. Holman's first goal of the day with 5:09
left in the first half gave Boston University a 2-1 halftime
advantage.
Boston University held a 29-11 advantage
in shots and a 9-7 edge in penalty corners.
Delaware will host St. Joseph's Wednesday
night at 7 p.m. at Rullo Stadium.
