BOSTON, MA -- Juli Byrd's fifth
goal of the season at the 26:31 mark of the first half stood
up as Delaware upset No. 14 Northeastern, 1-0, in field
hockey action at Parsons Field.
Byrd, a junior from Pocomoke, MD, scored
off of a feed from Megan Fortunato for the only tally
of the game. The Blue Hen defense took over from there.
Northeastern outshot Delaware, 18-4, for
the game, including 13-1 in the second half. Andrea Grasso
recorded six saves in logging her second collegiate
shutout.
The win over Northeastern was Delaware's
first since 1994 and Delaware's first win at Parsons
Field.
Delaware is now 3-5, 1-0 in America East.
The Blue Hens take on Boston University Sunday at 1 p.m. at
Nickerson Field in Boston. Northeastern is 5-3, 0-1 in
America East.
