NEWARK, DE -- Mandy Doherty and
Nikki Battiste each scored twice as Penn shutout Delaware,
4-0, in field hockey action at Rullo Stadium Wednesday
night.
Doherty scored the Quakers' first two
goals 4:36 apart to stake them to a 2-0 lead. Both goals
were unassisted and were her second and third of the
season.
Battiste scored her first of the night
and fourth of the season on a penalty stroke with 11:46 left
in the first half to give Penn (2-6) a 3-0 lead.
Battiste closed the scoring with 16:20
remaining in the game on an unassisted tally.
Penn dominated most of the game. The Blue
Hens (3-8) pulled goaltender Stephanie Judefind with
6:42 remaining and did manage several scoring opportunities
in the waning minutes. However, Katie Davis turned them all
away, recording six saves in the shutout effort.
Delaware continues its five-game
homestand Sunday when it hosts Vermont at 12
noon.
