PRINCETON, NJ -- Emily Townsend and
Claire Miller each scored twice as seventh-ranked Princeton
exploded for four second-half goals en route to a 5-0 win
over Delaware in field hockey action at 1952 Stadium
Wednesday night.
The loss snapped Delaware's four-game
winning streak and dropped the Blue Hens to 7-9 on the
season.
Miller scored the only goal of the first
half with just 1:34 left in the first half to give the
Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Princeton exploded in the second half,
though. Townsend scored 8:43 into the half to give the
Tigers a two-goal lead.
The Tigers (8-3) extended their lead to
3-0 on an unassisted goal on Melanie Meerschwam with 20:21
left.
Meerschwam assisted on Princeton's next
goal, feeding Miller for a tally with 8:51 left.
Townsend added her second tally of the
night with 4:17 left for the final margin.
Delaware goalkeeper Stephanie Judefind
recorded 16 saves in goal as Princeton held a 29-6 advantage
in shots.
Delaware will head to Philadelphia to
face Drexel Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Penn's Franklin
Field.
