NEWARK, DE -- Sophomore Kathy Sokalski
scored 3:02 into sudden-death overtime to cap a St. Joseph's
rally and give the Hawks a 3-2 win over Delaware in field
hockey action at Rullo Stadium Wednesday night.
Sokalski tipped an Amie Schmoltze pass
past back-up goaltender Steph Judefind. Judefind entered the
game with 9:42 remaining for Andrea Grasso, who was
ill.
Delaware (3-7) had taken a 2-0 lead a
pair of goals at the start of the second half. Freshman
Jessica Breault scored her third goal of the season
just 4:01 into the half when she tipped in a feed from
freshman Erin Shaklee.
Shaklee set up Delaware's second goal
just 5:20 later when she fed freshman Gloria Compello
for her first collegiate goal.
However, the Hawks came back. Kris
Takilnsky scored to cut the deficit in half with 9:42 to
play. Just 45 seconds later, with Judefind in relief of
Grasso, Brett Dymarczyk lifted a shot just over Judefind's
hip into the net to tie the score, 2-2.
St. Joseph's (4-6) held a 14-6 advantage
in shots and 7-4 in penalty corners.
Delaware continues its five-game
homestand next Wednesday when it hosts Penn at 7
p.m.
