October 27, 2000

NEWARK, DE -- First half goals by Tami Street and Jessica Russell 1:25 apart proved to be the difference as New Hampshire shutout Delaware, 2-0, in America East field hockey action at Rullo Stadium Friday night.

With the win, New Hampshire secured the top seed in next weekend's America East Tournament. Boston University will be the No. 2 seed and will face third-seeded Delaware on Thursday. The fourth seed will either be Drexel or Northeastern. Should Drexel defeat Vermont on Saturday in Philadelphia, the Dragons will be the No. 4 seed and earn their first tournament berth since 1992. Should Vermont win, Northeastern would gain the No. 4 seed by virtue of its win over New Hampshire earlier this season. Times for Thursday's semifinal games and Saturday's championship game will be announced on Monday.

Street scored unassisted with 15:58 remaining in the first half to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Russell added an unassisted insurance goal on a blast at 14:33.

New Hampshire held a 10-9 advantage in shots, including 8-2 in the first half.

Delaware will close out the regular season with a game on Sunday when it hosts Maine at 12 noon at Rullo Stadium.
