NEWARK, DE -- Juli Byrd's second
career hit-trick was not enough as Boston University
defeated the University of Delaware, 5-4, in America East
field hockey action Friday night at Rullo
Stadium.
Boston University's Jane Rogers scored
three minutes into the first overtime to win the game for
the Terriers (3-4, 3-1 America East). The Terriers tied the
game with 7:50 remaining in regulation on Felicia
Cappabianca's second goal of the game.
Byrd scored twice in the first half to
give Delaware (6-2, 2-1) a 2-0 lead. After the Terriers
rallied to tie it, 3-3, Byrd scored off a direct corner with
12:03 remaining to give the Blue Hens the lead. However,
that lead was to be short lived.
It is the 23rd hat-trick in University of
Delaware field hockey history. Byrd is the fifth player to
record multiple hat-tricks in a career joining a list that
includes her sister Jodi.
The nine goals scored between Boston
University and Delaware is the most in the three-year
history of Rullo Stadium.
The 20th-ranked Blue Hens will host No.
17 Northeastern Sunday at 1 p.m. at Rullo
Stadium.
