Post-season Berth with Win
NEWARK, DE -- Two first half goals
were all the University of Delaware's Field Hockey team
needed to defeat Drexel University 3-1 at a windy Rullo
Stadium Saturday. With the victory the Blue Hens claim the
third seed in the America East Championships to be held
November 2 and 4 at Sweeney Field in Boston.
Delaware recorded the first goal of the
game when Kim Wagaman (Oley, PA/Oley Valley Regional)
converted a penalty corner off passes from seniors Juli Byrd
(Pocomoke, MD/Pocomoke) and Jenn Fotiou (Oley, PA/Oley
Valley Regional) at the 13:06 mark.
Freshman Leah Geib (Schwenksville,
PA/Souderton) netted a deflection off just 2:39 later to
give the Hens (12-7, 6-3) a decisive two goal
advantage
Caliann Bogovic answered for Drexel
(10-9, 4-5) cutting the deficit to one goal with 2:08 left
in the first half. From there the Blue Hen defense shut down
Dragons attack, limiting them to only two shots for the rest
of the game.
Fotiou, capped off her final game at
Rullo stadium by putting the game out of reach scoring her
ninth career goal off a breakaway pass from freshman Lauren
Carr (West Chester, PA/Downingtown).
