ORONO, ME-- Delaware's field hockey team
didn't play like a team that hadn't played in nine days as
it won its third straight Friday night, 4-1, over Maine.
In Delaware's America East opener, the
Hens outshot the Black Bears, 22-5. The offense started
early as freshman Erica LaBar (New Castle, DE/ William Penn)
scored her first career goal six minutes into the game.
After Maine tied the score 1-1 at the
half, freshman Lauren Carr scored her third goal of the
season two minutes into the second half. The Blue Hen
offense did not look back from that point as Kim Wagaman and
Erin Shaklee also added goals. Senior Juli Byrd assisted on
the Shaklee goal bringing her season point total to
10.
Goalie Jaye Lance stopped seven shots for
the Black Bears, who fell to 2-4. Stephanie Judefind had two
saves in picking up the win for Delaware.
The Blue Hens (5-1) continue their
northern trip with a visit to New Hampshire Sunday. Game
time set for noon.
