Blue Hens edged by
nationally-ranked Tigers
NEWARK, DE -- No. 7 ranked Princeton
University had the last word in a tight, back-and-forth
scoring battle, defeating the University of Delaware 3-2, in
field hockey action Wednesday night at Rullo
Stadium.
The Tigers (8-2, 2-0 Ivy League), behind
the nation's leading goal scorer, Ilvey Friebe, struck 23:45
into the first half with the first of her two goals on the
night.
The Blue Hens answered back, as freshman
Leah Geib (Schwenksville, PA/Souderton) knocked in a rebound
with 5:18 remaining in the half.
Less than two minutes later, Princeton
responded as Friebe got her second goal of game, and 19th of
the season, to send the Tigers into halftime with a 2-1
lead.
Delaware (8-5, 3-3 America East) tied the
game at two goals apiece when junior Kelly Coyle
(Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrenceville) netted a pass from Kim
Wagaman, 3:32 into the second half.
Princeton broke the stalemate for good as
Rachael Becker scored the game-winner with 15:38 left in the
game.
The Blue Hens will look to get back on
track as they host Virginia Commonwealth Sunday October 14,
at 1 p.m., in Rullo Stadium.
