PALO ALTO, CA -- Freshman Leah
Geib scored her second goal in as many days to break a
scoreless tie and beat Stanford, 1-0, Sunday
afternoon.
The Blue Hens moved to 2-0 with the win.
It is the sixth time in the last eight seasons that Delaware
has opened the season 2-0.
Geib, a native of Schwenksville, PA
(Souderton HS), scored unassisted with 4:55 remaining to
ruin Stanford's season opener.
Stephanie Judefind and Heidi
Hibshman combined on the shutout. Judefind stopped four
shots in the first half, while Hibshman, who gets credit for
the win, made one save. Stanford's Rebecca Shapiro recorded
eight saves in a losing effort.
The Blue Hens held an 11-7 advantage in
shots, including 10-2 in the second half. The Blue Hens also
held a 7-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Delaware concludes its three-game west
coast swing Tuesday at California at 3 p.m. EDT.
