DURHAM, NH -- Freshman
Leah Geib scored an unassisted goal just eight
minutes and 16 seconds into the contest for what proved to
be the game's lone score as the University of Delaware
downed New Hampshire 1-0 in an America East field hockey
game Sunday afternoon.
Geib, a freshman from Schwenksville, PA
(Souderton HS), connected early with her third goal of the
season off her own rebounds to make a winner of the Blue
Hens (6-1, 2-0 America East), who extended their winning
streak to four matches.
Delaware's 6-1 start is it's best since
1998 when the Blue Hens opened the season 11-1 on their way
to a 15-6 record. Delaware is also 2-0 in league play for
the first time since that 1998 season.
Delaware outshot the Wildcats (5-4, 1-1)
18-10 and held a 12-3 advantage in penalty corners. New
Hampshire had its best chance to score with 3:07 left to
play but Marcie Boyer was wide on a penalty
stroke.
Blue Hen junior goalkeeper Stephanie
Judefind (Concord/Wilmington, DE) posted four saves to
post her third shutout of the season. New Hampshire
goalkeeper Christine Buckley stopped 12 shots.
Delaware will return to action Sept. 28
at home against Boston University.
