Duke scores four
unanswered goals to upend Delaware, Kelly scores first
collegiate goal
NEWARK, DE -- Duke University scored four
unanswered goals, including three over a 3:37 span of the
first half, as it prevailed over Delaware 4-2, in a non
league field hockey game on a rainy turf at Rullo Stadium
Sunday.
Senior Katie Kelly (North Caldwell, NJ) opened the
scoring for the Blue Hens with her first collegiate goal at
the 15:35 mark, taking a pass from sophomore Leah
Geib (Schwenksville, PA).
The Blue Devils tied the game less than five minutes
later when Nicole Dudek found the back of the net at 20:20.
Kim Gagola and Stacey Tsougas each followed with a goal
break the game wide open.
Duke scored once more in the second half to go ahead 4-1,
before senior Kim Wagaman (Oley, PA) closed the
scoring with a goal for Delaware with one minute to go in
the contest.
Blue Hen goalkeeper Stephanie Judefind
(Wilmington, DE) made five saves in a losing effort while
Duke goalkeeper Erica Perrier stopped four shots to pick up
the victory.
The Blue Hens return to action Friday night when they
take on Villanova in the first game of the Blue Hen Classic
at 7 p.m. at Rullo Stadium.
